Jayde Panayiotou Murder Case: Christopher maintains he had no reason to kill as bail hearing continues

BY CHARL BOSCH - MAY 20, 2015

The Port Elizabeth High Court is expected to continue with the bail hearing of murder accused Christopher Panayiotou later this morning.

Panayiotou, who stands accused of masterminding the abduction and murder of his wife Jayde, has said that he is confidant of being granted bail having been kept as an awaiting trail prisoner in the St. Albans Correctional facility since making his first court appearance on May 3rd.

It has since been reported that Panayiotou and his wife were expected to move into the upmarket Lovemore Heights area shortly before her death last month.

According to The Times, the 28-year old businessman had spent R2.2-million on purchasing a four-bedroom house, but stated in his affidavit that he “stood to gain nothing gain absolutely nothing from Jayde's death since we were married out of community of property without accrual”.

“No motive has been raised as to why I would have my beloved wife, Jayde, killed,” his statement read.

Panayiotou’s lawyer, Danie Gouws, has meanwhile rejected speculation that his client’s alleged mistress, Chanelle Coutts, had turned state witness, saying she was merely receiving legal advice following conflicting reports of her testifying against him.
