Jayde Panayiotou murder case: Christopher's bail bid hits a snag

MAY 11, 2015

Christopher Panayiotou’s bail application, which was expected this Thursday, could be delayed his attorney says. The PE businessman is accused of orchestrating the abduction and murder of his wife, Jayde Panayiotou.

Christopher is currently being held in the awaiting-trial section of St Albans Prison outside of Port Elizabeth.

Panayiotou’s attorney, Alwyn Griebenow, had proposed a bail application be heard on Thursday.

On Monday, he told EWN that bail hearing may not happen this week, because the state has asked for more time.

“They just said they are going to oppose bail and they need to prepare. They’re not ready yet.”

Strong legal team

Christopher is also being represented by Advocate Terry Price, whose clients include rape-accused tennis champion Bob Hewitt.

Price is credited for getting socialite Paris Hilton off the hook in 2010 when she faced dagga charges in PE during the FIFA World Cup.

Incriminating video

Meanwhile, state prosecutors are also expected to reveal a video recording showing Panayiotou meeting with the alleged middleman, Thando Siyoli, after Siyoli allegedly demanded R5000 extra – a meeting, which was apparently set up by the police to lure Panayiotou.
