Jeffrey's Bay police investigating robbery that left one robber dead


Jeffery’s Bay police are still investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Shoprite supermarket in the town's Seekoer Street on Friday and resulted in the death of a suspected robber during a shoot-out with local police.

The deceased, with more than six armed men, allegedly stormed into the supermarket at around 18:30 and allegedly held customers and employees at a gunpoint before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Local police arrived at the scene just as the robbers were about to flee.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, one of the suspects started shooting at the police, who returned fire resulting in the fatality.

Meanwhile, an employee at the supermarket, who was hit by stray bullet, was rushed to hospital for treatment.

“We haven’t arrested anyone yet but the matter is under an investigation and we are following up all leads,’’ said Sgt  Nkohli.
