Joburg man to appear in court for R1-million N2 mandrax bust

A 62-year old Johannesburg man is expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on Monday after mandrax worth an estimated R1-million was found in his vehicle over the weekend.

In a statement, Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said members of the Hawks, based in George, and Eastern Cape police pulled over a Honda Ballade on the N2 between George and Port Elizabeth on Saturday morning, based on previous information.

He said an investigation of the vehicle turned up 19 000 mandrax tablets concealed in bags underneath the chassis, which was to be distributed in the Western and Southern Cape. The suspect was taken into custody on a charge of drug trafficking and his vehicle confiscated.
