Joost honoured at 2015 Sport Industry Awards

Former Springbok scrumhalf, Joost Van Der Westhuizen, was honoured with an award for his contribution to South African sport at the 2015 Sport Industry Awards held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.

Van der Westhuizen, who suffers from Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and is wheelchair bound, received a standing ovation when he was helped onto the stage by his brother, Peter, before receiving the award from former Springbok captain, Morne Du Plessis.

Du Plessis said during his speech, that when late coach, Kitch Christie, chose his Springbok team, he always wrote down Van der Westhuizen’s name first.

Van der Westhuizen played 89 Tests for the Springbok between 1993 and 2003.
