June new vehicle sales end in the red

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has recorded a sixth consecutive drop in the sales of new vehicles for June, with exports also marginally down.

Aggregate total domestic sales for the month fell by 10.6% from 50 250 unit last year, to 44 939 examples this year. Individual segments were also down with new passenger vehicles sales falling 11.7% from 32 920 to 29 070, while light commercial vehicles went down 9.7% from 14 831 to 13 398.

Mixed results were however posted in the sales of medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, with the former dropping by 8.4%, and the latter going up by 2.6%. Up by less than a percent in May, exports for June were recorded a marginal decline of 1.4% from 31 419 to 30 965.
