Kenton-on-Sea protesters dispersed with teargas

MAY 25, 2015

Angry residents from Ekuphuleni Township, near Kenton-on-Sea, on Monday morning blocked the R72 with burning tyres and rubble and pelted passing vehicles with stones during a protest  to voice their dissatisfaction with housing delivery in the area.

The R72 is a busy coastal route, which links East London and Port Elizabeth via Port Alfred.

By Monday afternoon, the police had reportedly used teargas after they early on gave the protesters about 15 minutes to disperse.

The situation remained tense.
