Kick-off Mandela Month with Algoa FM Bloodline Day & Pick ‘n Pay

The South African National Blood Service, SANBS, celebrates July as Mandela Month and encourages the public to use part of their 67 minutes towards donating blood.

The 18th annual Algoa FM Bloodline Day will kick off Mandela Month in the Eastern Cape on 1 July 2015 with the aim to collect 800 units of blood in a single day.

Please stay tuned to Algoa FM on 1 July 2015 for regular updates regarding the promotion and please become part of the journey to collect 800 units of blood in one day.

Please ask someone to capture this moment on your mobile phone and share this picture as far and wide as possible, while you are donating, to inspire more people to get involved.  Make it your Whatsapp profile pic for a day and post the photo on your personal, the SANBS and Algoa FM’s Facebook pages to start a movement.

Pick ‘n Pay will be supporting Bloodline Day again this year, with their generous sponsor of doughnuts, ensuring everyone leaves a blood drive feeling rather sweet and proud.

Blood saves lives and ultimately creates new futures for those receiving it.  There is no substitute for human blood and with a positive population growth and improved healthcare services, the demand for blood is constantly increasing.

SANBS aims to collect 815 509 units of blood during 2015 and this can only be achieved with the on-going support of voluntary blood donors.

No healthcare system can function efficiently without a stable supply of safe blood.  It is nothing short of a miracle that vital aspects of healthcare are in the hands of ordinary blood donors who selflessly donate their blood to improve the lives of complete strangers.

A person can donate blood every 56 days and a single unit of blood can be separated into three different components that can help save 3 lives.  People between 16 and 65 years of age, who weigh more than 50 kg, are in good health and most importantly, lead a sexually safe lifestyle, can donate blood.

What will you do to make every day a Mandela Day?
