Three life sentences and 20 years were handed out to three convicted rapists on Thursday at the Bisho High Court for a rape incident that happened on 7 February 2015.

"It is alleged that the woman (23) was going to a shop when the three assailants dragged her to a nearby road at Mngqesha village, outside King William’s Town, and took turns raping her," said Eastern Cape police.

"The case was reported to the police and the three accused were charged for rape, robbery and kidnapping. The accused were positively identified with the rape incident through matching of DNA blood samples."

King William’s Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences- Cluster Commander, Colonel Zithulele Mahlambeni congratulated Detective Sgt Mzingaye Dayile for the excellent way he handled the investigation, resulting in the speedy finalization of the trial.

“We want to ensure that all sexual offenders are arrested and have their day in court. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice to the victim is served," said Colonel Dayile.
