King Williams Town police on Thursday morning arrested a 22-year-old man, whom they found in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle was allegedly stolen at Buffalo Flats, East London, on Wednesday.

According to the police, they were busy with routine patrols when they spotted the vehicle, a Toyota Conquest, at Cwayi Street, Ginsberg.

“They saw two males busy changing a tyre and stopped to assist them.

"However, the officers noticed the suspects were acting suspiciously, which triggered the members to circulate the vehicle,” said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

She added that it was then that police officers discovered that it was the vehicle that had been reported stolen on Wednesday at Buffalo Flats, East London.

“While Police were busy circulating the vehicle one of the suspects fled on foot and police managed to arrest his accomplice,” described Captain Mawisa.

The suspect was charged for theft of motor vehicle and another charge of the possession of stolen motor vehicle will be added.

The vehicle was confiscated by police and the suspect is due to appear at King Williams Town Magistrate Court soon.

“The Station Commander of King Williams Town, Colonel Andile Lamana thanked the members for their sterling efforts which resulted in the swift arrest.
