Police in Uitenhage have launched an investigation after three armed suspects robbed a Spaza shop in Nkohli Street, KwaNobuhle, late Monday evening, at about 20:00, before fleeing.

According to the police, one suspect with a firearm forced his way through a locked burglar gate at a corner Spaza shop and allegedly held the owner at gunpoint and demanded keys to the burglar gate, which the suspect later opened.

“It is alleged that, the suspect opened the gate and two other two, one also with firearm joined him and ran off with cash, cigarettes, airtime vouchers and two cell phones.

“However, no person was injured during the incident,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

After the suspects had fled, the Spaza shop owner managed to contact KwaNobuhle police and a case of armed robbery was opened.

Police have since appealed to local residents, who might have knowledge of the suspects to come forward and assist in their investigation.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact crime stop or the nearest police station,” said Sergeant Nkohli.
