Kwazakhele man busted with mandrax worth R1.4-million

Port Elizabeth police have confirmed the arrest of a 33-year old man from Kwazakhele in connection with a drugs bust believed to be part of a syndicate.

Speaking in a statement, police spokesperson Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda said the man was taken into custody by members of the Hawks on Thursday morning, after his Toyota Conquest was spotted at a truck stop in Motherwell.

A search of the vehicle turned up two boxes hidden in a sports bag, which contained 28 000 mandrax tablets worth an estimated R1.4-million. The man’s cellphone was also confiscated.

Netshiunda stated that the latest bust comes after police arrested a number of suspects on similar charges over the last couple months, resulting in the confiscation of 70 000 mandrax pills.

The man is expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of drug dealing.
