NOVEMBER 22, 2016

The search for Miss Mamelodi Sundowns went to East London, Eastern Cape on the 18th of November, where two aspiring young women were selected from a shortlist of 40 provincial contestants. The two semi-finalists are Mikaela Oosthuizen and Oarabile Modibana, who each win R60 000.

“We are looking for young women who embody what the Mamelodi Sundowns’ brand stands for; each contestant must have a strong moral code, be highly ethical and display resolute integrity. She must be proud of her heritage and culture, she must be humble, able to connect easily with people and most importantly, she must demonstrate a love for all the citizens of South Africa,” says Kerusha Govender, project manager and former Miss Mamelodi Sundowns.

The celebrity guest judge was Shaun Haschick, a former Moroka Swallows soccer player who is now the creative director of a popular clothing label in East London called Silver Stallion.

Meet the two semi-finalists from the Eastern Cape:

Mikaela Oosthuizen, 21, is a BA Media, Communication and Culture Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar at NMMU. She keeps a busy schedule as a public relations practitioner at “Outside the Box Marketing” and she is a radio and TV presenter at a local station.

Oarabile Modibana is 22 years old and she comes from Port Elizabeth. She is currently a student at NMMU, where she is completing a Diploma in Economics.

“The Eastern Cape was our final stop on the Miss Mamelodi Sundowns’ Roadshow for the year. It’s a beautiful province with a rich culture and heritage and, of course, its women embody this. We’re very excited about our final two contestants, who join sixteen other semi-finalists who all aspire to win the title of Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 2016. I am confident that this year’s group of contestants are some of the strongest we’ve ever seen in the pageant and we are looking forward to an exciting finale in December,” says Govender.
