Latest weather update: Strong cold front expected on Wednesday

A fast moving strong cold front is expected to move through the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, warns the Port Elizabeth office of the SA Weather Services.

"Isolated showers, but scattered along the coast, can be expected over the western half of the Eastern Cape (west of Somerset East) in the morning.

"These isolated showers will spread to the eastern half of the province later in the afternoon," said Garth Sampson, spokeperson at SA Weather in the Eastern Cape.

"Snowfalls are expected on the high lying interior mountains (Sneeuberg from midday, Winterberg and Southern Drakensberg from afternoon).

"Cold midday temperatures are expected in the west but cool for places ahead of the cold front in the east."

03/08/2016: Strong winds are expected over the entire interior of the Eastern Cape, with winds of 45km/h gusting 65km/h in the afternoon.

03/08/2016: Light snowfalls are expected over the northern lying mountains of the Eastern Cape from Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

03/08/2016: Disruptive snowfalls are possible in the Coetzeesberge between Graaff-Reinet and Cradock.

Anybody erecting tents or temporary structures are advised to take extra precautions.
