“Load shedding to continue for another 18 months” - Brown

BY CHARL BOSCH - AUGUST 6, 2015

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has said the country can expect imposed load shedding to continue for another 18 months due to ongoing capacity shortages at Eskom.

Her announcement comes after the struggling power utility indicated that it would be implementing stage two load shedding from 17h00-22h00, after ending stage one power cuts just after mid-day today.

“Although the accelerated maintenance has increased plant capacity from 65 percent to 75 percent, I am urging Eskom to continue on this trend and increase this threshold to reach at least 80 percent,” The Times quoted Brown as saying during Eskom’s annual general meeting at Megawatt Park earlier today.
