Local Twitter users get chance to know more about Athol Trollip

SEPTEMBER 21, 2015

Taking a leaf from the huge success of the AskMmusi chat session on social media site, Twitter, on Tuesday, the Democratic Alliance's (DA) Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral Candidate, Athol Trollip, is expected to host his own 'Twitter Town Hall' session on the site.

Using the hashtag, AskAthol, this is another move by the DA in the Metro to try to get local voters to be better acquainted with Trollip ahead of the crucial 2016 Local Government Elections.

Local Twitter users will have an opportunity to ask everything they ever wanted to know about Trollip including his vision for the Nelson Mandela Bay.

Trollip, whose Twitter handle is @AtholT, will be answering questions from a desk at City Hall on lunchtime, from 1pm to 2pm.

The move is evidently a way to connect with the younger and social media savvy generation, who will most likely tip the poll in the DA's favour if they were to vote for the party.

By any measure, Maimane's 'Twitter Town Hall' session was successful and the #AskMmusi continued to trend on Twitter, even after the Twitter Town Hall had closed its doors.

While some Twitter users asked Maimane serious questions related to politics, policy and current affairs, others were disappointed when he did not answer their funny questions.

It remains to be seen if AskAthol will replicate the same success.

Two Saturdays ago, Trollip and Maimane officially launched the DA's bid for the Nelson Mandela Bay Mayorship at a well-attended event.

Trollip has also endeavoured to visit all 60 Wards of the Nelson Mandela Bay in 60 days to connect with residents. He began in KwaZakhele.
