Logistics Park planned for Port Elizabeth Auto Terminal

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is planning to create a logistics park at the Port Elizabeth Harbour auto-motive terminal in order to provide value-added services and increase volume throughput.

TNPA states in a presentation made to the 2nd Strategic Customer Conference earlier this month that the intention is to have the logistics park operational in the 2016/17 financial year.

The presentation indicates that TNPA is also planning to implement an automotive transhipment strategy in the current financial year and identify car importers into South Africa for storage and transhipment facilities in order to increase volume throughput.

TNPA is planning to position the Port of Port Elizabeth as the country’s premier automotive port.

The intention is to expand the existing automotive facilities at the port once the manganese facility and oil tank farm have been relocated to the Coega Industrial Development Zone which is scheduled to happen by 2019.
