Lt Gen Celiwe Binta welcomes swift arrest of Motherwell cop's killers

DECEMBER 2, 2015

Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant  General Celiwe Binta, on Wednesday expressed her satisfaction with the swift arrest of four suspects linked to the brutal kiling of  an off-duty Motherwell policewoman, Constable Nomathamsanqa Ivy Tsitsi, early in November.

“This shows our commitment to ensure that those who attack and kill police officials will be brought to book,” she said.

The SAPS in Motherwell on Wednesday morning announced that they have arrested a 36 year-old suspect in connection with the murder of Constable Tsitsi, 36.

She was brutally gunned down as she arrived at her home in Mcelu Street, NU8, Motherwell, after working night shift when an unknown male approached her and fired several shots towards her vehicle, a black Citroen, on 12 November.

Three suspects, Msindisi Bhebhula, Thembani Rorwana and Ndiphe Soqokomashe, were all arrested in the city between Friday and Sunday and were remanded in custody on Monday by the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court until the 12th of January 2016.

The fourth suspect was arrested after his attendance of Constable Tsitsi's Memorial Service, which was held on Tuesday in KwaZakhele Township in Port Elizabeth.

He is expected to appear before the Motherwell Magistrate's Court on Thursday facing a charge of murder.
