Lusikisiki cop shot while responding to a business robbery

Lusikisiki SAPS members were attacked by unknown suspects while responding to business robbery, earlier on Tuesday morning, Eastern Cape police said. The police are appealing to members of the public to assist in the arrest of the suspects.

The members were responding to a business robbery at one of the businesses in Main Street, Lusikisiki and when they approached the scene, they were shot at by the suspects before they disembarked from their police vehicle.

The members fired back and a shootout ensued. One of the members, Constable Zilungile Dubula, 30, was shot in the upper and lower body. She was taken to hospital for medical attention and is in a stable condition.

Case of business burglary and attempted murder were opened are currently under investigation.

No arrests have been made as yet and police are following leads.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Celiwe Binta condemned the attack and said, “An attack on or murder of a police official is a threat to our constitutional democracy which should not be taken lightly by anyone, as this robs our communities of their protectors. Any person who attack or kills a police official will face the full might of the law.”
