Magnetic Storm PE hosts Open Day for AV enthusiasts

BY JESICA SLABBERT - AUGUST 20, 2016

Audio visual experts Magnetic Storm on Friday hosted an open day event at the Paragon Conference Centre in Newton Park, to educate audio visual enthusiasts about what the company provides and how audio visual work is done.

They had invited guests to enjoy one on one time with their team of experts in sound, audio visual and lighting equipment. Through their tech talks and a varied array of equipment on display, they shared the latest trends and insights specifically to their needs.

“The event is geared towards a particular niche market sector, being houses of worship, education, banqueting, where they very often rely on volunteers or people who are not necessarily technical fundi’s and they don’t have high budgets for what they need either,” said Jane Stevenson, Strategic Marketing Director at Magnetic Storm.

“It’s all just about education, and it’s about Magnetic Storm giving back to specific sectors to rally up and engage.” said Stevenson.

Andrew Greeff, a well-known AV specialist in Port Elizabeth, was the event’s keynote speaker. He has over forty years of experience in the audio visual field, and currently provides his experience and expertise to churches that require equipment, as well as being a music director.

“It’s been a passion of mine since I was a young boy, and the broadcasting side of it in those years was a wonderful time. We were trained by the best of the best, we were trained in every field from radio drama to music to sport, it was wonderful,” he said.

He expressed that events like the one Magnetic Storm is hosting are very important, especially in Port Elizabeth, and that more should happen in the future to create better networking amongst people who are interested in the audio visual field.

“We are an amazing city where there’s a tremendous lot of talent when it comes to music or audio visual or sound. Yet sometimes we don’t know each other, we don’t know what is actually here. So we end up going out of PE when we actually shouldn’t need to,” said Greeff.

Greeff currently works at the Harvest Church in Port Elizabeth, providing them with technical assistance and AV equipment.

Magnetic Storm will also be hosting a lighting talk on Saturday at the same venue from 11h30.
