Major Storage Dams Continue To Drop

NOVEMBER 11, 2014

The major storage dams supplying Nelson Mandela Bay were at a combined 77.33% of capacity when the latest reading was taken yesterday, 0.17% lower than a week before.

Details released by the municipality show that the largest storage dam, the Kouga remained at 85.65% of capacity yesterday, while the second largest, the Impofu, was at 70.78%, down from 71.39% last Monday.

The Churchill was at 61.18%, which was marginally up on the 60.71% recorded last week, while the Groendal remained at 100% of capacity and the Loerie was at 60.77%, down from the 61.24% recorded last week.

While there is still no clarity with regard to the imposition of water restrictions and accompanying punitive tariffs which were initially announced for October 1, the metro has been warned by the Department of Water and Sanitation that it is facing a drought next year.
