Major Storage Dams Marginally Down

The major storage dams supplying Nelson Mandela Bay were at a combined 77.93% of capacity when the latest reading was taken on Monday, 0.3% lower than a week ago.

The largest storage dam, the Kouga, was at 85.22% of capacity, up from 84.96 last week, while the second largest, the Impofu, was at 72.98%, down from 73.41% on October 6.

The Churchill Dam was at 61.01% on Monday, slightly up on the 60.92% recorded a week ago, while the Groendal was at 100% for the second week in a row and the Loerie at 58.99%, down from 59.65%.

The National Department of Water and Sanitation has warned that the metro faces a drought next year.

In addition, the Water and Sanitation Directorate has said there is currently not sufficient water in the dams to sustain the municipality for the next 18 to 24 months. - MetroMinutes.
