Major storage dams up by more than 1%

The major storage dams supplying Nelson Mandela Bay were at a combined 77.96% of capacity when the latest reading was taken on Monday, more than 1% higher than a week earlier.

The largest storage dam, the Kouga was at 84.96% of capacity, up from 83.12% on September 29, while the second largest, the Impofu, was at 73.41% having dropped from 73.45% a week earlier.

The Churchill Dam was at 60.92% on Monday, up from 58.52% a week ago, while the Groendal had increased to 100% from 99.59%and the level of the Loerie had risen from 47.49% to 59.65%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has issued a warning that the metro faces another drought in 2015.

With that in mind the municipality indicated that it intended to impose water restrictions from October 1, but without the normally accompanying punitive tariff increases. - metrominutes
