Man and woman rescued in East London after boat fails

APRIL 11, 2016

A man and a woman were rescued by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) East London early on Monday morning after their boat suffered a technical failure.

"At 02h30, Monday, 11th April, NSRI East London duty crew towed the sea rescue craft Spirit of Rotary II to the Hamburg River and launched from the river slip way to go half a mile up river to assist a 45 year-old male and a 28 year-old female, both from East London, on a river boat that suffered battery and motor failure," said NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

"They had put to anchor on the river to prevent them from being washed down stream in an outgoing tide."

NSRI East London found them both safe and a tow line was rigged and they were towed downstream to a river mooring without incident, arriving at day-break, and they required no further assistance.
