Man in mystery Pine Lodge murder to appear in court again today


A man, who was arrested by Port Elizabeth police on Sunday afternoon following the discovery of a woman's body that was found dumped in bushes at the Pine Lodge Resort, off Marine Drive on Friday morning, made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. The court postponed the hearing against the man, who cannot yet be named, to Wednesday. 

It is alleged that a woman, whose identity is unknown, was found by Pine Lodge Resort staff dumped next to a fence close to the Cape Recife Nature Reserve entrance.

According to the police, CCTV footage from the Resort showed a man in blue overalls carrying the woman’s body out of the resort and walking to a section of the reserve, which forms part of the resort premises. The man then dumped the body under a tree near the Resort's tennis court area at about 4:10am on Friday.

Furthermore, police belive that the deceased woman was raped and strangled to death before her body was dumped.

A case of murder was opened and a team of detectives was assigned to investigate the murder.
