Man jailed for 12 years for raping teenager moments after she had allegedly been raped
A 26-year-old Butterworth man, Zibele Mnyani, was handed a 12-year jail sentence after he was convicted and sentenced by the Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court on Thursday for raping a 17-year-old girl rape victim last year.
"The accused pretended to be feeling sorry for the victim, who had been raped by her step father on 05 June 2016, at about 19:00 at Ramrha Village, in Willowvale," said police spokesperson, Captain jackson Manatha.
"He told her he was going to escort her to her home.
"Instead of escorting the victim to her home, the accused forced the victim to go to his home where he raped her on the 05 June 2016, at about 19:30."
Captain Manatha said that the Butterworth FCS Unit investigated the case after it was reported to police and arrested the accused.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old stepfather was sentenced by the Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court to undergo 17 years imprisonment for the rape of the teen.
"It is alleged that the accused who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim who is his step daughter, gave the victim money to buy herself chips from a local shop," said Captain Manatha.
"The accused went to the shop and found the victim with other children. He chased the other children away.
"He then dragged the victim to an unused hut, where he raped her."
The victim was later escorted home by the 26-year-old man.
The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) also arrested the stepfather.
