Man slapped with seven-year jail term for raping 65-year-old woman in 2013

Justice was finally served when the Centane Regional Magistrate's Court last week Thursday sentenced 31-year-old, Khayalethu Dumezweni, to seven years behind bars after convicting him of raping a 65-year-old man.

"It is alleged that the accused went to the homestead of the victim at Mdeni Location, Macibe Village, Centane on 07 July 2013 at about 01:00," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He forced the door open and found the victim, who was staying alone.

"He raped her and later left the crime scene."

Captain Manatha however said that Dumezweni was identified by the victim.

"A case of rape was opened at Centane Police Station.

"Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused," he described.

"Elderly women are warned not stay alone as they are regarded as soft targets by the criminals."
