A 35-year-old Butterworth man, who was arrested by police over the weekend for allegedly raping a 67-year-old woman, will appear again in the same court on Wednesday next week after the court postponed the case.

"The accused briefly appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He was not asked to plead. He was remanded in custody as he was not granted bail."

According to Captain Manatha; "It is alleged that the victim was asleep on Friday at her home which is at Mkrwaqa Village, Butterworth.

"The suspect is alleged to have pushed the door open and entered the home.

"He allegedly raped the victim on the night in question, at about 23:00 - the suspect then run away."

Captain Manatha said that he was, however, identified by the victim.

"Police were alerted about the rape.

"They attended to the complaint and were shown the home of the suspect," he said.

"He was found at his home and arrested."
