Manchester City in a 3-1 win against Liverpool
Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-1 in a Premier League game - their first heavyweight clash of the new season, at Etihad Stadium on Monday.
While Liverpool dominated the first half, Man City came in strong with Stevan Jovetic scoring two goals and Sergio Aguero scoring one goal for Man City.
However, Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta scored an own goal for Liverpool.
Liverpool has had nine new signings since the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. They are transforming their team and are currently adjusting to life without Suarez. Liverpool’s latest £16m signing, Mario Balotelli watched the game on Monday from the director’s box.
Manchester City Manager, Manuel Pellegrini was pleased with the result.
"We worked the whole game and played a very good team. We worked without the ball for 95 minutes and with the ball we made enough danger to score three goals,” said Pellegrini.
"When you play against a strong team you have to concentrate and our concentration and intensity was good. Liverpool are an important team and one that will be fighting for the title. It's so important to get six points from our first two games as it was a very difficult start for us.”
Man City will be facing the Stokes on Saturday at Etihad Stadium and Liverpool will be playing against Tottenham, at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
