Manchester United spends £150 million on transfers this season

BY NATALI IVERSON - SEPTEMBER 2, 2014

Manchester United dominated Europe’s transfer activity for this season, after manager Louis Van Gaal took his summer spending spree to £150 million.

Last month, Van Gaal signed Angel Di Maria for an astonishing £59.7 million from Real Madrid, which has seen to be the largest signing on the British transfer record. Van Gaal had also signed midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao for £29 million, on the 26th of June this year.

29 year-old striker Radamel Falcao was signed yesterday on a one year loan (with an option to buy), just minutes before the closing window.

"I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season," he said on Manchester’s website.

"Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top. I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team's success at this very exciting period in the club's history."

Van Gaal has sold England forward Danny Welbeck to Arsenal as well as Mexico striker Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid, which has been reported will regain some of the money spent on new signings.

Manchester United will be facing Queens Park Rangers at the Old Trafford Stadium on the 14th on September.
