Manhunt for Port Alfred cash-in-transit robbers

MAY 7, 2015

Port Alfred SAPS arrested a 34-year-old man and are still searching for other suspects, who made off with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing G4S guards at Rosehill Mall, in the town, yesterday, Eastern Cape police said.

"The armed men held up two G4S security company guards as they were loading money into an ATM at the mall at about 13:00.

"The two guards working for a Port Elizabeth-based company were tied up and their cellphones and keys were seized before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash," the police said.

"The four suspects fled on foot after loading the money into a getaway car, while a third employee of the cash transporting company who remained in the company truck, gave chase.

They fired shots as they fled into nearby bushes while the getaway car sped away to a different direction.

Police immediately launched a manhunt into the bushes and arrested a suspect, who claimed to have been hijacked.

Police are searching for the other suspects and no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Port Alfred SAPS is appealing to any member of the public who have information about the wanted suspects not to try and apprehend them as they are armed and dangerous, but to report to the investigating officer Sgt Stewart Abrahams 082 6400 870 or Captain Lawrance Mgqibela - 071 682 0472.
