Marais names team for Kings friendly

JULY 15, 2015

Vodacom Blue Bulls coach, Nollis Marais, has named his team who will be taking on the Eastern Province Kings in a friendly match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

Marais has included five Springbok players in his squad, with another being placed on the bench.

Francois Hougaard has been chosen for flyhalf, while Arno Botha has been placed at No 8, Deon Stegmann at flank, Flip van der Merwe at lock and Werner Kruger at prop, with Dean Greyling on the bench.

Marais believes that younger players should be given a chance to play, which is why the rest of the team consists of junior Springbok players.

Jannes Kirsten and Marvin Orie are in the starting pack, with William Small-Smith, Warrick Gelant, Daniel Kriel and Travis Ismaiel being included in the backs.

The newly appointed Currie Cup coach has said that his team still have a lot to do in training.

"We only have one more warm-up match after this, so we need to get things right from the start. We are working on a number of things on the training ground and would love to see that implemented in a match situation, so it will be an important match for us,” he said.
