March passenger vehicle sales down, exports and LCV’s up


The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has a reported a minimal increase in the sales of new vehicle during March with exports continuing to shine.

Although aggregate sales came to 55 449 units, up nine from the same period last year, individual passenger vehicle showed a decline of 3.0% with 35 548 new models being shifted compared to the 36 644 sold in March 2014. Exports however continued to show an upwards trend with 34 147 vehicles being moved versus the 24 659 from the same time last year.

Sales of light commercial vehicles also continued its forward momentum with a 5.5% increase of 16 808 compared to the previous 15 933. Similarly, the market for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles also registered a significant increase of 8.8% and 7.6% respectively.
