Mashaba reveals Bafana’s starting team
Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba, has revealed his starting team that will go up against Algeria in their first Group C African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match at the Stade de Mongomo in Equatorial Guinea later this evening.
Darren Keet has been placed back in the goals after being side-lined for the games against Mali and Cameroon.
Mashaba has handed Dean Furman the captaincy band for the match, partnering him with midfielder, Andile Jali in the centre.
Forward Tokelo Rantie has been placed as the only striker upfront with midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi being given the centre forward position, as Mashaba is hoping for full strength in the centre.
Sports minister, Fikile Mbalula, has congratulated the South African team for doing so well in their preparations and has wished them well for their first AFCON match.
"Their preparations have been something to be proud of and as they embark on a journey of rekindling the 1996 AFCON victory memories, it is important to wish them all the best," he said.
"The president of the country, Jacob Zuma, has also wished them all the best and we believe that they can do us proud. Their record speaks volumes and everywhere one goes, Bafana's name is on the lips of everyone and we are hoping for the best from them,” he added.
