A reported 4 000 people marched towards the Kabega Park police station yesterday evening in an impromptu protest gathering following the death of school teacher, Jayde Panayiotou, with many calling for the death penalty to be reinstated.

The body of the 28-year old Riebeeck Colleague teacher was found in an isolated area near KwaNobuhle yesterday morning, after she was reportedly abducted on Tuesday just after 06h30 while waiting outside her Kabega residence for a lift to Uitenhage. No cause of death has yet been determined.

According to Algoa FM, many of the protesters carried banners with Panayiotou’s face on it while others chanted “enough is enough” and “ons is gatvol”.

No arrests have yet been made with police following every lead after releasing an ATM surveillance camera image of a man withdrawing money from Panayiotou’s account in KwaNobuhle not long after she disappeared.
