Matfield and Coetzee injury concerns

BY NATALI IVERSON - JULY 20, 2015

Springboks lock, Victor Matfield and flank Marcell Coetzee are currently the only injury concerns for the team, for when they take on the All Blacks in their Rugby Championship Test at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Matfield injured his hamstring and Coetzee injured his knee during the Bok’s 20-24 loss in their first Championship Test match against Australia over the weekend.

According to the Bok’s team doctor, Craig Roberts, Coetzee had not injured the ligaments in his knee; however it is most likely that he will not be able to participate in Saturday’s match.

"Thankfully it looks like his ligaments are intact,” Roberts said in Johannesburg on Monday. “It looks more like a bad contusion to the quad. (But) we’ll have to do a few more tests to be sure."

"Victor sustained a hamstring injury. At this stage he is doubtful for the weekend, but we'll only make that call later in the week,” he added.
