Mayor Jordaan to handover more than 1 000 RDP house title deeds

JULY 14, 2016

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan, is on Thursday expected to handover title deeds to more than a thousand government subsidised house (RDP) beneficiaries at the Uitenhage Sport Centre, in Uitenhage.

"The handover forms part of a programme by the municipality to restore dignity of the former marginalised and disadvantaged communities who have never formally owned a property in their lifetime," the municipality described.

"This restoration of dignity is done through provision of decent houses (with sanitation, electricity and water) and their title deeds, provision of quality service and a government service that is responsive to the people’s needs among others."

It said that the programme started in Walmer a few months ago where more than 2 000 title deeds have already been handed over by the Executive Mayor.

"At the handover in Walmer, the Executive Mayor handed over title deeds to elderly people, who some of them more than 80 years old, who never officially owned a property before in their life," the municipality added.
