Mayor Trollip sees off the Eastern Cape's sole hope at 2016 SA Idols


Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, took some time off his schedule on Wednesday morning to join those, who gathered to see SA Idols 2016 hopeful, Bevan Samuels, off at the PE Airport.

Samuels (18) made it into the Top 16 of the 2016 SA Idols show and left for Johannesburg where he will be representing both the Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape at the prestigious national musical talent search competition.

While he comes from a disadvantaged background in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas - having grown up in Beverley Hills, Gelvandale, Samuels beat thousands of other contestants from around South Africa to land a spot in the top 16 of the competion.

Later in the morning, Mayor Trollip also mentioned him in his speech at the first full sitting of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Council.

"We need to continue making and retaining heroes like Top 16 Idols Finalist, Bevan Samuels, who this morning left for Gauteng to continue his Idols journey," he said.
