Mdantsane gets new Cluster Commander Maj Gen Andre Swart

The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape Lt Gen Celiwe Binta announced the appointment of the new Cluster Commander for Mdantsane Cluster, Maj Gen Andre Swart with effect from the 1st of November 2015. The position became vacant after the retirement of the previous Cluster Commander, Maj Gen William Mbaliso earlier this year.

“It is my pleasure to announce this appointment today. Maj General Swart is a career police officer with more 35 years’ service of which he served 15 years as a Senior Manager (Brigadier). I have no doubt that Maj Gen Swart brings with him a wealth of operational and management experience which will serve him well in ensuring that  police operational priorities are executed as required and  that under his guidance police stations  in the Cluster will deliver a service of a high standard to our communities.

"We wish General Swart all the best in his position and call on our communities to assist him and his team of police officers in all their endeavours to make our communities safer,” she said. 

The following stations resort under the Mdantsane Cluster: Mdantsane, Berlin, Inyibiba, Vulindlela, Bluewater, Mooiplaas, Kei Mouth, Komga and Maclean Town.

RESUME OF ANDRIES PETRUS SWART

Major General Andre Swart matriculated at Florida High School in Rhoodepoort, Gauteng.  He joined the South African Police Service in Johannesburg in 1980, more than 35 years ago.

He has progressed through the ranks starting with frontline service in attending to complaints attached to the community service centre. In 1985 he became an officer and was appointed as a Staff Officer and performed administrative duties at the Office of the National Commissioner in Pretoria for seven (7) years.

In 1992 he was promoted to the rank of Major and was subsequently transferred to the Free State Province and appointed as the District Commissioner of Ladybrand.

In 1995 he was appointed as the  Area Head Crime Prevention Bethlehem and promoted to the rank of Colonel. In 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and left the Free State to move to the Eastern Cape with his appointment as the Deputy Area Commissioner, East London.

In 2007 he was appointed as the Cluster Commander of King William’s Town and in 2009 became the Provincial Head, Protection and Security Services in the Province.

Maj Gen Swart has attained a National Diploma in Police Science in 1984 and a Bacalaureus Administration Degree (Unisa) in 2000.
