Mdantsane man sent to jail for 15 years for aggravated robbery

A Mdantsane man was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for robbery with aggravating circumstances by the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court in Mdantsane, East London, on Friday.

Luyolo 'Marara' Kangaphi allegedly robbed his victims of their personal belongings, money and cell phones.

"He allegedly threatened them with a knife, while they were walking on the street. Both incidents took place in NU-2, Mdantsane in July and September 2014 respectively," Eastern Cape police said.

"These robbery cases were opened in Mdantsane Police Station.

"Excellent investigation by Warrant Officer Phumelele Tile, led to the arrest and conviction of the suspect."

Mdantsane Cluster Commander, Major General Andre Swart, has acknowledged the sterling job by the investigation officer.

“I would like to reiterate the SAPS’s vision of rooting out criminal activities and ensuring good convictions in court.”
