BY TAI CHISHAKWE - OCTOBER 9, 2014

Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane will hold a one-day inter-governmental relations meeting at the East London Convention Centre, East London, with the aim of improving the coordination of rural development programmes throughout the province’s rural communities.

“The strategic objectives of the forum are to develop mechanisms for effective integrated implementation and coordination of rural development through the analysis of sector department plans and IDPs of municipalities,” said the MEC’s Spokesperson, Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha.

He said the meeting will also aim to re-engineer inter-governmental fiscal relations towards effective mobilization of resources for sustainable funding of rural development; mobilise, manage and control resources to ensure the successful implementation of the strategy and ensure social organisation and participation to lead and support the realisation of the strategy.

National and provincial government departments, municipalities and government agencies will also attend the meeting.

Sicwetsha said the meeting will develop mechanisms for effective integrated implementation and coordination of rural development through the analysis of sector department plans and IDPs of municipalities, re-engineer inter-governmental fiscal relations towards effective mobilization of resources for sustainable funding of rural development, mobilise, manage and control resources to ensure the successful implementation of the strategy and ensure social organisation and participation to lead and support the realisation of the strategy.

“The meeting follows MEC Qoboshiyane’s realisation of disintegrated delivery of development programmes in the Eastern Cape for rural communities.

“With the MEC having met all stakeholders and government institutions, the meeting is called to accentuate on coordinating implementation and not to talk about coordination,” he said.

“After the daylong deliberations, a programme of action stipulating work to be done in coordinating implementation of rural development will be presented to the forum for adoption and its implementation will start immediately.”

The forum meeting will take place as follows:
