Minister Naledi Pandor expected to launch hydrogen fuel cell in Cofimvaba

JUNE 12, 2015

Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, accompanied by Andrew Hinkly, from Anglo American Platinum, are expected to launch a hydrogen fuel cell in Cofimvaba on Friday.

They will also be accompanied by Gavin Coetzer, CEO of Clean Energy Investments, and Mike Hellyar, MD of Air Products South Africa.

The project is piloting the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology for standby power at three schools in Cofimvaba. Hydrogen, when used in a fuel cell, is an emissions-free alternative fuel that can be produced from diverse domestic energy sources.

Research and commercial efforts are under way to build the hydrogen fueling infrastructure and produce hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that are practical for widespread use.

The launch will be held at Mvuzo Junior Secondary School.

The other schools benefiting from this project are the Arthur Mfebe Senior Secondary and St Mark's Junior Secondary Schools.
