Minister Nxesi expected in Uitenhage for Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Nelson Mandela Bay is expected on Sunday to host a Memorial Lecture in commemoration of the 21st Anniversary of the death of Joe Slovo, a long-time leader of the SACP and a leading member of the African National Congress (ANC).

The lecture, which will be held at the Babs Madlakane Hall, in Uitenhage, will also be attended by Thulas Nxesi, who is the current SACP National Deputy Chair and the Minister of Public Works. 

Messages of support are also expected from the delegates from the ANC, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) and the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA).

Slovo was the SACP General Secretary, ANC NEC member, Chief of Staff of Umkhonto Wesizwe. He served in many structures of the congress movement, at the time of his death in 06 January 1995, Slovo was the SACP National Chairperson, ANC NEC Member and the Minister of Housing.
