Mngxitama suspended - report

BY CHARL BOSCH - FEBRUARY 17, 2015

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has reportedly suspended MP Andile Mngxitama for bringing the party into disrepute and misrepresenting it. Although the party has not yet confirm the allegations, Eyewitness News reports that an email was sent to Mngxitama last night informing him of his suspension.

Mngxitama, who was due to give a press conference on the alleged misuse of funds by the party’s leadership, has said that the letter bares him from attending any Parliamentary activity, but added that the action was merely a face.

“It’s a political witch hunt. Remember, I’ve now been in some sort of battle with the leadership of the party and central to that is an attempt to cleanse the party of a very bad culture inherited from the ANC,” he was quoted as saying.

During a press briefing held before President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address last Thursday, Mngxitama was attacked by several fellow party members loyal to leader Julius Malema, after an alleged interview with the SABC two weeks ago, in which he accused the party’s leadership of supporting jailed EFF North West secretary, Papiki Babuile, who has since had his membership revoked, and misspending funds.

The party has denied the allegations, saying that Mngxitama has been under the influence of former members and founders of the Patriotic Alliance, Kenny Kunene and Gayton McKenzie. In a strongly worded letter addressed to Malema last week, former convict turned businessman McKenzie described him as the party’s biggest problem and a “money-grubbing capitalist robed in revolutionary gear dictator”.
