Mob justice: Lady Frere residents severely assault suspects - one dies at police station

According to Eastern Cape police, a task team has been launched in Lady Frere to investigate two cases of murder that happened near the Lady Frere SAPS building on Wednesday, at about 12:00 in the morning.

"It is alleged that the community members from  Bengu A/A brought the victims, who were allegedly accused to be the suspects of housebreaking, highjacking and attempted murder that was opened recently at Lady Frere," said police spokesperson, Lt Namhla Mdleleni.

"According to the allegation, the victims, between the ages of 21 and 30, were apprehended by the community, who then allegedly assaulted them during the night of Tuesday and brought them to the police on Wednesday afternoon. 

"On arrival to the police station, one them was already gasping and he died in front of the Police Station and two were taken to a nearby Hospital where one late died and another  is still in a stable condition."

A case of murder was opened and the  deceased  are not yet identified.  

The Cluster Commander Queenstown, Brigadier Pumla Mavuka appealed to the community members  not to the law into their own hands but to assist the police by giving information on criminals.
