Mohair market “fairly stable” at last sale

DECEMBER 3, 2014

The mohair market was “fairly stable” at the final sale of 2014 in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday when 101 521 kilograms was on offer. Mohair South Africa said the average market indicator rose slightly to close on R188.44/kg with 99% of the offering sold. It said the market had been “fairly stable, despite the fact that not all buying houses were active”.

Mohair SA said the volumes offered via the auction in 2014 “remained virtually unchanged, with expectations that production will be slightly up for the year compared to 2013”. It said the market closed 11% up from the beginning of the winter season and the average market indicator for the season closed on R179.38/kg compared to the R117.60 average in 2013.

“It is expected that the demand for mohair will continue into 2015 and the out-look remains positive.” - metrominutes
