More than 230 suspects arrested in Uitenhage over the weekend

Police officers in Uitenhage arrested more than 230 suspects, through high-density operations that were conducted over the past weekend, from Friday until Monday.

The suspects were arrested on charges relating to murder, rape, robbery, attempted murder, housebreaking and theft, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of suspected stolen goods, etc. 

According to Uitenhage police, seven arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor and a total of 18 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R9 000. 

“Seventeen persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession and a total of 140 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes,” said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

She added that police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster. 

The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
