JANUARY 19, 2016

The Hawks reportedly carried out one of the country's biggest drug busts when they seized Mandrax tablets, with a street value of more than R12 million, in a truck on the N1 highway, north of Bloemfontein. The drugs were destined for the Eastern Cape.
“We received a tip-off about drugs from Gauteng on the way to the Eastern Cape.

"We heard that they were at the Verkeerdevlei tollgate. We stopped the truck and found a man and a woman inside and a hidden compartment," Free State Head Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Liziwe Ntshinga, told the SABC.

“We found eight bags of Mandrax containing 20 bags each with a thousand tablets each.”

Two suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested in the bust and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
