Mossel Bay father remains in jail for burning two-year old daughter

A Mossel Bay father is expected to re-appear in the town's Magistrate’s Court on July 27th for assaulting his two-year old daughter less than two weeks ago. He will remain in jail until then after his bail application was postponed earlier today.

According to local media, the 21-year man reportedly locked the girl’s 18-year old mother away in a room, before hitting her with a belt and then placing a hot object on her neck and various other parts of her body. It was also claimed that he assaulted the mother at some stage. No motive for the attack has yet been revealed.

The toddler was admitted the town’s Provincial Hospital on the same day as the attack before being released into the care of relatives on July 1st. A case of assault and kidnapping has been opened.
