Mount Road cluster police net 125 in weekend operations


Mount Road cluster police arrested a total of 125 suspects in various operations over the weekend, with charges ranging from drug possession, robbery and drunken driving, to domestic violence, house robbery, possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

In a statement, police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said major busts included the arrest of a 23-year old student warder and her friend at the living quarters of the St Albans Correctional Facility, where a tip-off led to the discovery of 400 mandrax tablets. The pair will appear in court later today on a charge of drug possession.

A day later, officers working under Operation Lockdown confiscated 71 packets of tik, 407 mandrax tablets, 72 dagga rolls, one toy gun, a nine mm pistol, a gas gun and a pellet gun through stop and search operations and issuing of warrants.

On Sunday evening, police on duty in Veeplaas arrested a 21-year old man after unlicensed firearms and ammunition was discovered inside his Volkswagen Kombi. On the same day, police also arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 29, in Kwazakele who were found driving around in a stolen Mazda 323. Both are expected to appear in court soon.
